TRUST’s Screening Program Heads North to Alaska as Part of Expanding Nationwide Effort

The Kidney TRUST’s community-based free CKD screening program is continuing to grow and extend its reach by participating in community and employer health fairs all across the country.  For the first time, The TRUST will offer screening in Alaska in 2012, coming to the Spring Fling for Women in Anchorage on April 14 and 15.  The TRUST has so far scheduled screenings this year in 10 states and the District of Columbia with many more locations to be added as the year goes on.  Upcoming screenings are listed on The TRUST website.

Kidney TRUST volunteers provide a CKD screening.

We hope to be coming soon to a city near you.  States included in this year’s schedule so far include Alaska, Arizona, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington.  Please contact CKD Screening Program Manager Gloria Upchurch at if you would be interested in having The TRUST offer screening as part of your company’s or organization’s health outreach efforts.

The TRUST’s rapid-screening program identifies individuals who have signs of kidney impairment.  We have screened more than 20,000 people since the program began — 12% of those screened showed signs of CKD and were counseled to see their doctors. These individuals were empowered to change their lives, modify their behavior and receive timely treatment.  Along with learning their screening results onsite, screening participants benefit from a personal education session to explain their results and any individual risk factors, receive materials that offer additional education about CKD and its prevention, and are encouraged to seek medical follow-up as appropriate.
