The Kidney TRUST Taps Lawson to be President
El Segundo, California, March 13, 2022 – The Kidney TRUST, a non-profit organization dedicated to Chronic Kidney Disease (“CKD”) education, announced today the appointment of Barbara B. Lawson as the organization’s first president.
Barbara was most recently Chief Operating Officer and Senior Project Director at Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation in San Francisco. In this position she was responsible for the growth and development of Pangaea — a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding access to HIV/AIDS treatment in the developing world. While at Pangaea, Barbara’s achievements included the completion of a state-of-the-art clinic and training center in Kampala, Uganda and the establishment of innovative HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Ukraine. Barbara, who has an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, previously held senior leadership positions at California State University at Monterey Bay, Marin Community Foundation, and the Pacific Stock Exchange.
Cathy Gelb Mobley, Chair of the Board of Directors of The Kidney TRUST, commented: “Barbara is a proven leader in the non-profit community, who brings great energy and passion to the TRUST. She has played a key role in the development of a number of very successful organizations and we believe that she will quickly establish the TRUST as a major contributor to kidney disease education in the United States.” Barbara remarked on her appointment: “I am tremendously honored to join The Kidney TRUST and look forward to helping to establish the TRUST as an effective force in raising awareness of kidney disease and ultimately helping to prevent it.”
The Kidney TRUST’s mission is to create a world of hope, health, action and engagement for those affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (“CKD”). It aims to benefit the 26 million American adults estimated to CKD and their families, as well as the 320,000 Americans with kidney failure who are on dialysis and their families. One of the TRUST’s main goals is to increase awareness of kidney disease through public education and testing programs, so that progression of the disease to kidney failure can be delayed or prevented. The Trust also plans to provide targeted contributions to patient advocacy organizations, and ultimately provide support to indigent kidney patients and their families. The Kidney TRUST was founded by DaVita, the largest independent provider of dialysis services in the United States.
As President of The Kidney TRUST, one of Barbara’s responsibilities will be to manage over 50 walkathons across the country, called KAT Walks (for Kidney Awareness Time). Volunteers and walkers partner together in the KAT Walks to raise awareness about kidney disease and money to help support that fight.
