Director of Development

Responsibilities

The Director of Development is an individual contributor role reporting into the President & CEO that will be responsible for developing, implementing and executing the development strategy for The Kidney TRUST.  The Director of Development will be responsible for achieving the organization’s fundraising goals, engaging sponsors, donors, clients and diversifying the organization’s funding base.  While it is encouraged to leverage existing relationships, the majority of the role will emphasize driving new ones.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Create and implement annual development plan and strategy
  • Drive and manage the organization’s overall development efforts to raise an annual budget set by the CEO and approved by the board of directors
  • Develop regional and national support; current emphasis in program is almost entirely on corporate support; must have strong background in working with corporate prospects and a proven record in securing corporate sponsorships
  • Identify approach and strategy for development of fee-for-service chronic kidney disease screening in corporate settings and lead ongoing sales efforts
  • Identify, cultivate and nurture new relationships with an emphasis on corporate sponsors, foundations, and individual donors
  • Direct and coordinate the work of consultants and volunteers engaged in fundraising activities
  • Write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation, and government funders
  • Develop and grow individual donor base; develop annual giving campaign; develop and cultivate major gifts
  • Develop and manage board fundraising capacity
  • Train and lead board members, other staff and volunteer to support fundraising efforts
  • Oversees donor database and donor acknowledgement and stewardship activities
  • Ensures that The TRUST communication efforts support and re-enforce fundraising program
  • Participates in The TRUST’s annual strategic planning and budgeting processes
  • Participates as a member of The TRUST’s management team
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the President & CEO

 Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of direct sales or business development experience in a service industry or with a non- profit; emphasis on corporate sponsorships or corporate sales is required
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota of over $2M annually
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new accounts
  • Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base
  • Strong partnership-building and event planning skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development
  • Proven management and leadership capabilities
  • Experience working with senior level executives in a corporate environment
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, including facility with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office; knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Understanding of medical field or health care industry beneficial
