JULY 2010

On July 30, 2021 The Kidney TRUST will offer applications for another round of financial aid to dialysis patients through the Financial Assistance Program (FAP). The FAP provides $1,000 grants to patients on dialysis under their private health insurance plans who are having trouble managing co-pays, co-insurance and deductibles for medical treatment and prescription drugs.

The upcoming round of the FAP is being offered to residents of California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Maryland, Texas, and Virginia. For more information about the FAP program and to obtain an application, visit the Financial Assistance Program page on the TRUST’s website.

Since launching the FAP program nearly 700 grants and approximately $1.4 million in funds have been awarded to grant recipients.

For Kenneth Mancle, a New Jersey native who currently resides in Temple Hills, Maryland, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a fact of life and has been since 1996 when he was first diagnosed with the condition that affects one in six American adults. At age 39, Kenneth has been on dialysis since November of 2000 and because he has a rare blood type, has been on a waiting list for a kidney transplant for the last six years.

Kenneth is realistic about the consequences of kidney disease, but irrepressibly optimistic about the future. He is Chairman and CEO of his own company, the AllStar Entertainment Group, LLC, married and the father of two teenagers, and a tireless advocate for kidney disease awareness.

“It’s almost unbelievable to me that this disease affects more than 30 million people and hardly anybody knows about it, aside from those that have had it affect them personally,” said Kenneth in a recent interview. “My aim is to educate those who don’t know about CKD on the consequences so that they can take steps now to head off kidney failure and avoid dialysis in the future.”

The Kidney TRUST has been selected once again as the recipient of funds raised by participants in the Tour DaVita™ and Kidney Awareness Run/Walks™ to promote kidney disease awareness. Currently more than 31 million Americans have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and 90 percent of them don’t know it. DaVita Inc.© which is the founding sponsor of The Kidney TRUST and a leading provider of kidney care services, sponsors both events as part of the company’s commitment to reduce the progression of kidney disease in the United States.

The 4th annual Tour DaVita is a 240-mile bicycle ride open to DaVita teammates and friends of DaVita that aims to increase awareness of kidney disease and raise funds for the Kidney TRUST. The ride this year will take place from September 18 to 22, starting in Tacoma, Washington taking riders on a scenic route throughout the state.

The 5th annual Kidney Awareness Run/Walks, which are open to participants nationwide, will take place in ten cities in 2010, starting with Chicago on September 11 and concluding in Long Beach, California on November 13. The other eight cities include Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, St. Louis, Washington, D.C., Virginia Beach, Ft. Worth, and Sacramento. The Kidney TRUST will be conducting free kidney disease screening at all Run/Walk locations.
